Grandma's Ginger Snaps

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup light molasses
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper (optional)
  • Turbinado Sugar for rolling

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Cream shortening and sugar.
  3. Beat in egg, molasses and other dry ingredients.
  4. Roll dough into small balls and roll them in Turbinado Sugar.
  5. Place on baking sheet, squishing slightly.
  6. Bake 8-10 minutes.
  7. Enjoy!
